Clear Mountain Zen Center Schedule and Workshops

Zen sitting meditation, the core of zen practice, is called zazen in Japanese. During zazen, practitioners usually assume a sitting position such as the lotus or half-lotus. Awareness is directed towards one's posture and breathing. A round cushion, zafu, placed on a padded mat, zabuton, is used to sit on; in some cases, a chair may be used.

The zazen periods at Clear Mountain Zen Center are thirty minutes each, with a ten-minute kinhin (walking meditation) between. Cushions and chairs are provided for zazen.

After meditation, tea is served and questions and discussion follow.

Introductory classes, though not necessary to attend the regularly scheduled sittings, are a good way to learn about the practice.  Introductory classes are held by appointment on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7:30pm. If you would like to attend please contact us to confirm attendance.
